HARD FOUGHT LOSS AT RIO HONDO

HARD FOUGHT LOSS AT RIO HONDO

The Hornets have opened their season on the road and suffered three straight losses.

Over the weekend, FC played in the Moorpark College Tri where they fell to the Raiders 3-1 (25-13, 25-16, 25-18) and College of the Desert 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 22-25, 26-24).

On Wednesday night, the Hornets hit the road to play Rio Hondo College and lost 3-0. Despite the three-set sweep, Fullerton gave the Roadrunners a run for their money.

The first set was a bit rough for FC as the team fell behind early and lost it 25-16. The Hornets woke up in the second set pushing Rio Hondo to extras before falling 26-24. Fullerton fought hard in the third and final set keeping it close, but the Roadrunners were able to finish it 25-23.

Quinlan Vu led the Hornets with 5 kills, while Mariah Williams, Amelia Hahs, and Arianna Islas all brought down 3 kills each. Hahs had 7 assists, while Izzy Hernandez chipped in with 10. Kimmy Gonzalez had 11 digs, Hahs 10, Joshlynn Lopez 9, and Koby Kaihara had 7.

The FC team is young with only two returners from last season's squad in Amelia Hahs and Arianna Islas. These Hornets may not be the tallest team on the court, but they are scrappy and able to play every position when needed, according to first-year head coach Rena Smith. It will come together for this team as they are a hardworking energetic group with a never-say-die attitude.

Up Next: FC (0-3 overall) will play in the Pasadena City College Quad beginning on Friday, September 8th when they take on the Lancers at 11:00 am. Later that day, the Hornets will play Ventura College at 2:00 pm.
