CROSS COUNTRY: TWO HORNETS REP AT STATE

The Hornets traveled up to Fresno's Woodward Park for the State Cross Country Championships last Saturday with two individual runners, Andrea Mendez and Pablo Perez, representing FC for this prestigious competition.

Mendez did not disappoint running her best race of the season against 211 competitors. Placing herself in the top half of the race with a final time of 20:04, Mendez came in at 66th overall.

"The race went by so fast", said Mendez, "But it was encouraging for the runners as the trails were lined on either side with coaches, family and friends who cheered on all of the runners."

She then walked over to teammate Pablo Perez and wished him good luck for his race. Andrea told him, "stay alert and work those hills in the middle".

For the men's race, Pablo Perez finished out the season running strong during the four-mile competition, in which he finished with a time of 21:53 placing 72nd among 208 athletes.

"Coming around the hills the second time was challenging, and I knew I had to push the last mile", claimed Perez.

After it was all over, the two satisfied sophomores exchanged a high-five, and told each other "good job" wrapping up the 2015 season with expectations achieved.

Mendez was also a 2nd team All-Orange Empire Conference selection this season.
