BASEBALL: BIG WIN OVER #1 SADDLEBACK

The Hornets hit the road Tuesday taking on #1 in the south Saddleback College and won 5-3.

The win gives Fullerton a 1-0 lead in the three-game Orange Empire Conference series.

FC scored the game's first run in the top of the second on a single to the left side by Andrew Piraino giving David Miranda a chance to come home.

The game remained 1-0 until the fifth inning when the Gauchos tied it up on Kent Burckle's double to left center scoring Robbie Biehl.

The Hornets broke out with four runs in the ninth on a single and two doubles. Laine Huffman led it off ripping a double down the left line scoring Joey Parente and Kevin FoleyAustin O'Banion chipped in on a deep sacrifice fly to left scoring Row. Shane Carrier finished it of on a double to left field bringing Huffman home.

Saddleback put up a fight in the bottom of the ninth when Ryan Fitzpatrick hit a two run shot over the left field fence, but that is all they had left in the tank.

The Hornets starting pitcher Randall Ortiz (7-2) threw a complete game earing his seventh win of the season. He allowed 8 hits, 3 earned runs and struck out 2 batters.

Up Next: Fullerton will welcome Saddleback to Hornet Field for game two this Thursday, April 28th. The first pitch will go out at 2:00 pm.
