SHARP DRAFTED BY THE MLB SEATTLE MARINERS

Catcher Jacob Sharp was drafted in the 17th round (pick 517) by Major League Baseball's Seattle Mariners.

Out of La Mirada High School, Jacob Sharp was a two-year starter for the Hornets earning 2nd Team All-OEC honors in 2021. In 21 games that shortened season (COVID-19), Jacob had a .279 batting average, with 19 hits, 11 RBI, 18 runs, 4 homers, 4 stolen bases, and threw out 8 runners. In 2022, Sharp batted .313 for FC with 28 runs, 30 RBI, and 4 home runs. He totaled 40 hits (13 doubles) in 36 games played.

Jacob went on to sign a scholarship offer from the UNLV baseball program and had great success with the Rebels his junior season. Sharp was named to the All-Mountain West First Team for pacing the team offensively this season in nearly every offensive category. Starting in all 46 games played with 42 starts behind the plate (4 at DH), Jacob had a team-high .335 batting average with 63 hits, 48 RBI and 48 runs. He had 13 doubles, 12 home runs and one triple with a.606% slugging percentage. Sharp also tied for second in the conference in sacrifice flies (5), tied for third in home runs (12), tied for fourth in runs scored (48) and finished fifth in batting average (.335). 

Last summer, West Coast League Commissioner Rob Neyer announced Sharp (playing for the Ridgefield Raptors/UNLV) as the league's Co-MVP along with Joichiro Oyama (UC Irvine). Sharp reached base 83 times in 42 games and easily paced the WCL with 14 home runs. The West Coast League is the West's premier summer collegiate baseball league. It Encompases Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, and Alberta. The WCL showcases pro prospects from major collegiate conferences around the nation.
