SERIES SPLIT WITH PALOMAR

The Baseball Hornets had a two-game series with Palomar College on Friday and Saturday and split with the Comets 10-3 and 15-10.

On Friday, Palomar made the trip to Hornet Field and snagged a 10-3 win over Fullerton. The Comets took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth, but FC answered back with 2 runs of its own. Jake Starr scored from third base on a balk and Hunter Billingsley came across on a Comet error. Palomar added another run in the fifth and the Hornets made it 4-3 in the 6th on a single by Trevor Schmidt that scored Nate Pone. That would be the last run for Fullerton as the Comets racked up 6 more runs to solidify the win.

In the second game on Saturday, the Hornets traveled down to Palomar College and had a shootout with the Comets for a 15-13 victory. Both teams ripped off 16 hits apiece for a total of 28 runs in a contest that lasted over three hours. Fullerton was down 6-1 going into the fourth inning and then pulled within 2 runs (6-4) on a double by Diego Vazquez that plated Cole Sheppard, and another double by Noah Rodriguez that brought in Vazquez and Erik Polanco. FC took a 7-6 lead in the fifth when Trevor Schmidt hit a solo home run, Sheppard doubled scoring Starr, and Vazquez knocked in Sheppard. Schmidt added single in the sixth that scored Pone for an 8-6 lead. Schmidt crushed his second homer of the game in the eighth- a two-run shot, and Polanco hit a single that scored Billingsley and Starr. Two more FC runs came across in the ninth. Trevor Schmidt singled scoring Pone and Jake Starr tripled scoring Jake Larson. Those runs were needed as Palomar came out firing in the ninth scoring 6 runs before reliever Eddie Garcia came in to shut it down for his first save of the season.

Up Next: The Hornets (2-3 overall) will host Fresno City College on Tuesday, February 4th for a non-conference game. The first pitch goes out at 2:00 pm.
