FULLERTON OVERPOWERS MOORPARK TWICE

In a non-conference game on Saturday, the Hornets racked up a 16-2 victory over visiting Moorpark College.

Before the game began, the Raiders and Hornets finished the contest from the January 30th that was halted due to darkness in the top of the ninth. Up 13-5, Fullerton added two more runs to the scoreboard thanks to a double hit by Hunter Billingsley that scored Trevor Schmidt and a SAC Fly to center by Diego Vazquez that brought in Billingsley. Pitcher Eddie Garcia tossed a clean ninth inning (3 innings total) to lock down his second win on the season. At the plate, Jake Larson had a day going 5-6 with 2 runs and 2 RBI. 

For the scheduled game, the Hornets did not hold back exploding for 8 unanswered runs in the second inning, while adding 2 runs in the third and 3 runs in the fourth. 

Up 13-1, Fullerton scored 2 more runs in the bottom of the sixth when Erik Polanco grounded out giving Ben Carter the chance to score from third. Kai Hopefel eventually came in on a wild pitch.

The Hornets were up big 13-2 going into the eighth when Hunter Billingsley brought one more across hitting a SAC Fly to center giving Wybrand Barron the chance to come home.

Starting pitcher Josh Porter was solid putting in 4 innings of work with 4 hits against, an earned run, no walks, and 3 K's. Manny Lopez came in for the win throwing 2 innings, had no runs, no hits, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts for his second win.

In all, Fullerton totaled 14 hits with 9 walks. Four Hornets had a multi-hit game in Oscar Juarez (2-3/2 RBI/2 walks), Trevor Schmidt (2-3/1 run/4 RBI), Luke Viola (2-4/2 runs/2 RBI), and Justin Cabada (2-5/2 runs/1 RBI).

Up Next: The Hornets (8-5 overall) will take a trip up north for a three-game series at Sacramento City College that runs Thursday (Feb. 20th at 6pm), Friday (Feb. 21 at 2pm) Saturday (Feb. 22 at 12pm).
