BIG REBOUND VICTORY

BIG REBOUND VICTORY

After a stunning loss to College of the Canyons last week, the No. 12 FC football squad rebounded well on the road Saturday night taking it to the Huskies of East LA College 44-3.

Fullerton and East LA came into the non-conference game with a 1-1 record after both teams dropped their week 2 matchups. The Hornets lost to College of the Canyons 29-13, while the Huskies fell at Allan Hancock College 40-27. The FC win not only gets the team back on track but keeps the Hornets undefeated at 2-0 for the all-time series with East LA College. Last season was the first time the two squads faced one another with FC winning it 51-0.

The first quarter ended in a scoreless 0-0 tie, but the Hornet offense turned it on in the second and fourth quarters for the lopsided finish.

FC quarterback Josiah Jarrett earned the first start of his college career and tossed his first touchdown pass to running back Elvis Vakapuna for 25 yards at 11:03 in the second quarter. After a team safety was enforced by the Hornet defense (2nd quarter at 1:23), Jarrett went on to throw another TD from 5-yards out to Vakapuna with 53 seconds left in the half.

In the fourth quarter, FC ground out an unstoppable running game that produced four touchdowns- one by Vakapuna and three by Jared Peters. Altogether, the Hornets racked up 243 yards on the ground with Elvis Vakapuna leading the way with 130 yards from scrimmage on 19 carries. Jared Peters had 72 yards on 12 carries.

East LA's only score came in the second quarter on a 21-yard field goal by Kirobi Parker.

The Hornet defensive unit was impressive holding the Huskies to 72 yards of total offense with an interception, 3 sacks, and a fumble recovery.

Up Next: The No. 12 Hornets (2-1 overall) will travel south to Mt. San Jacinto College to play in the Southern Conference opener on Saturday, September 28th at 6:00 pm.
