The No. 1 FC men's basketball team kept its winning ways going at home on Wednesday night running past Irvine Valley College 73-57.
It was the 10th win in a row for Fullerton, which gives the team a 17-1 overall record along with an undefeated Orange Empire Conference record of 6-0. Irvine Valley is now 4-13 overall and 0-5 in the OEC standings.
The first half was not a walk in the park for Fullerton as Irvine Valley did its best to slow the game down in order to keep pace with the Hornets. At 11:25, Javon Jones knocked down a three-pointer giving FC some breathing room at 14-9. The Hornets averaged a five-point cushion, until Charlie Henderson converted a three pulling within a point (33-32) with less than a minute to go until halftime. A pair of successful free-throws by Shaquil Bender ended the half at 35-32.
Fullerton did not let go of the lead in the second half taking a ten-point edge (52-42) by the twelve-minute mark on a couple of free-throws by Jeremiah Davis. Proving too much for the Lasers, Kobe Newton's three-pointer helped the Hornets push their lead to 18 (73-55) with two minutes left in regulation. Up by a decent margin, FC ran out the clock and finished with another needed win.
