In an Orange Empire Conference game Wednesday night, the No. 1 FC men's basketball flew past Santiago Canyon College at home 100-78.
The victory marks the 16th straight for Fullerton remaining undefeated through the months of December and January. The SCC loss bumps the team to 14-10 overall and 6-6 in the OEC.
The two teams hung with one another for the first few minutes of the game The Hawks snuck in a 15-13 lead on a layup by Zach Ibbetson 12:55, but the Hornets soon snatched the lead back 17-15 on Javon Jones' three-point shot. From there, FC took off on an 11-3 mini-run (28-18). Santiago Canyon cut into Fullerton's lead getting within five (30-25), but FC had other plans going on a 15-5 run (45-30) that was set off by Godfrey Litttle's deep three-pointer. When the dust cleared, FC owned a 50-34 lead by halftime.
The second half remained in the Hornets favor as the team pushed ahead for its largest lead of 27 by the 9-minute mark that was highlighted by another deep three by Javon Jones. With 1:35 left in the game Coree Joseph hit a nice jumper giving Fullerton a 100-point game. It was the fifth time this season that the team hit the 100-point mark.
Six Hornet players scored in double-digits tonight as Sean Newman Jr. led the team with 19. He also added 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Shaquil Bender scored 14 points, while Jeremiah Davis contributed 13 points with 4 steals. RJ Banks, Javon Jones, and Godfey Little all scored 12 points each with Jones adding 8 boards. Mike Ofoegbu managed 6 points and had 4 rebounds. Kobe Newton also produced 6 points.
