FULLERTON TOO MUCH FOR RIVERSIDE
In an Orange Empire Conference game, the Hornets pulled off a convincing 69-53 victory at Riverside City College Friday night.
The FC win puts the team at 22-3 overall and 11-2 in the Orange Empire Conference, while the Tiger loss pushes the team down a notch at 12-14 overall and 4-9 in the OEC. Fullerton and Santiago Canyon still remain tied for first place in conference-play at 11-2.
There were no lead changes in this contest as Fullerton jumped all over the Tigers with a 16-4 run in the first eight minutes and never let up. A dunk by Joe Grahovac in the 7th minute lifted the Hornets up 27-19, while a big three-pointer by Jaqari Miles gave the team a 39-26 edge by the 2:56 mark. RCC, however, fought back hard with a run of its own pulling within 7 points at the halftime break 40-33.
Within five minutes of the second half, the Hornets had given themselves a decent cushion at 52-37 that was capped by a nice layin by Justin Davis. FC extended its lead to 19 (61-42) with 7 minutes left and kept the Tigers caged for the remainder of the contest for the win.
Once again, the FC defense stood out scoring 21 points from turnovers, while holding Riverside to 29.5% shooting.
Addy G'Bye was the scoring leader for Fullerton dropping in 16 points with 3 rebounds. Jaqari Miles put up 15 points with 4 rebounds, while Justin Davis scored 11, with 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Joe Grahovac contributed 10 points, had 6 rebounds, and 5 blocks.
Up Next: The No. 15 Hornets (22-3 overall, 11-2 OEC) bring it back home on Tuesday, February 11th when they welcome cross-town rival Cypress College to the Hornets Nest for another OEC showdown. Tipoff is at 6:00 pm.
