GAINING A FOOTHOLD FOR THE OEC TITLE

GAINING A FOOTHOLD FOR THE OEC TITLE

The Hornets did what they had to do on Friday and defeated Golden West 2-1 in order to hang on to first place in what is a tight race in the Orange Empire Conference standings.

It was a big hurdle for FC as the team is vying for its third conference title under head coach Greg Aviles. Friday's win gives Fullerton some breathing room at the top of the OEC standings with a record of 6-1-2, while the Rusters fall to 5-3-1.

Scoring the first goal in the game came swift and early as Luis Chavez-Esparza hurt the GWC defense scoring in the 4th minute (assist by Misael Gonzalez).

In the second half, FC made it 2-0 in the 53rd minute on a hard boot by Misael Gonzalez from 25-yards out (assist by Jazey Zavala).

A red card in the 57th minute took a man away for the Hornets as the team had to play shorthanded for the remainder of the match. Taking advantage, Golden West knocked one through the posts in the 80th minute, but that is all Fullerton allowed with the defense stepping it up for the win.

Goalie Jose Estrada had an active day with 7 saves and only 1 goal against.

Up Next: Fullerton (10-4-4 overall, 6-1-2 OEC) hosts Orange Coast on Friday, November 4th at 3:00 pm.
