The FC men's soccer team opened the season playing three teams from out-of-state to open the season winning two out of three.
Last Friday night, the Hornets took on the College of Southern Nevada at Mt. San Antonio College and blanked the Coyotes 2-0. The first goal was had in the 44th minute on a shot by Jair Vargas with the assist coming from Pedro Delgado. Fullerton struck again in the 88th minute on a Thomas Gomez goal off the feed by Camilo Arellano. Strong defense by FC kept Southern Nevada off balance, while goalie Ryan Moreno-Rojas provided 5 saves in 90 minutes.
On Saturday, the Hornets headed back to Mt. SAC to play Arizona Western College and fell 2-0 against the No. 3 ranked NJCAA (Division I). FC goalie Steven Martinez had 8 shots on goal with 6 saves.
Tuesday night was the Hornet's official home opener and the team did not disappoint defeating Arizona's Yavapai College 1-0. The lone goal of the match came early in the 11th minute when Evan Courtney knock the ball into the back of the net from 15-yards out. The assist came from Jair Vargas. Again, defense for Fullerton did the trick holding the Roughriders scoreless locking down the second win of the season. FC goalies Ryan Moreno-Rojas (45 minutes) and Steven Martinez (45 minutes) were strong in the box securing the team's second shutout.
