The Hornets hosted Orange Empire Conference rival Golden West College on Friday afternoon and knocked out the Rustlers 3-1.
The win not only keeps Fullerton atop the OEC standings with a record of 5-0-1, it gives head coach Greg Aviles his 100th career win since taking over the Hornet men's soccer program. Aviles has been one of the winningest coaches with a record of 100-45-28 (.690), while leading the team to four OEC titles (2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023). Since his start in 2016, Coach Aviles has also led FC to the playoffs five out of seven seasons and is looking for another run this year.
Fullerton caught on fire early on with a goal near the 5th minute when Brandon Acevedo took the assist by Hayden Kenny for his first goal of the season.
Golden West tied the game up in the 21st minute on a shot Jorge Orozco, but the Hornets answered back with a goal in the 27th minute on a shot by Evan Yoell.
FC locked down the victory in the 62nd minute on Andrew Arreola's goal with the assist by Max Ron.
Defense was the name of the game as FC kept the Rustlers in check throughout proving why they are the best unit in the conference.
GK Ryan Moreno-Rojas got the start in the box for Fullerton and had a save and a goal against in 90 minutes.
Up Next: Fullerton (9-3-2 overall, 5-0-1 OEC) will hit the road against another OEC foe in Saddleback College on Tuesday, October 22nd at 6:00 pm.
