MEN'S TRACK & FIELD: OCCIDENTAL DISTANCE CARNIVAL

The Hornet Men competed at the highly competitive Occidental College Spring Distance Carnival on Friday night. This meet marks the midway part of the season.

While the training continues to remain hard, the Hornets are starting to see the improvements.

Adrian Williams and Brendan Bartunek better their seasonal personal marks by nearly a full second in the 400 meters, with respectable times of 50.14 and 51.74.

Freshman Ramiro Espinoza continues to improve in the 3000 meter steeplechase has he learns how to negotiate the 27 barriers throughout the race, running 10:25.62.

Along with Espinoza, Fullerton HS Grad, Johnny Nava continues to lead the Hornets with his 10:15.66 for that race.

Other races throughout the night saw Freshman Jonathan Sheatz and Javin DeLa Torre tackle the 5000 meters for their first time on the track, 17:15 and 17:24 respectively.

Brandon Velasco and Raul Bustamante ran the rarely contested 10,000 meters, (25 laps) at 10:30pm Friday night. While Velasco, suffered from cramping throughout the race, his 33:43.60 is respectable. Bustamante ran 39:27, in a race that had 58 athletes circling a track for well over 30 minutes.

Up Next: The Hornets will compete this Friday, March 20th at the Antelope Valley Invitational with the events beginning at noon.
