SOPHOMORE NIGHT SUCCESS

SOPHOMORE NIGHT SUCCESS

The Hornets balled out at home for Sophomore Night last Friday night hammering down a 3-0 win over El Camino College.

It was a great night to be a Hornet as the coaching staff honored the sophomores for their strong dedication and hard work both in the classroom and on the court. Sophomores recognized before the start of the match were Nathan Cho, Noah Spelman, and Evan Shank.

Fullerton came out with an abundance of energy from the start ripping off an 18-11 lead that was capped off by a combination block by Curtis Lee and Samuel Chavez. Matthew Chacon's kill on the right side clinched the first set for FC 25-16. In the second set, the Warriors came out to play keeping it close by trailing the Hornets 9-8, however Fullerton took off on a run grabbing an 18-12 lead thanks to a block by Curtis Lee and Drew Craig. Once again, Chacon finished off the set with a kill to seal it 25-18. The third and final set was all Hornets as the team opened with a 14-3 advantage that was highlighted by Drew Craig's kill. Fullerton went on to take the set and match 25-14.

It was truly a great Sophomore Night as all three second-year players led the team in their respective categories. Noah Spelman led the team in kills with 13 (also had 5 digs), Nathan Cho led the team in digs with 20 (added 3 aces), and Evan Shank was the assist leader with 21 (added 10 digs). Freshmen that contributed to the win were Samuel Chavez (7 kills/5 aces/4 blocks), Curtis Lee (7 kills/3 digs/2 blocks), Shon Schugk (5 kills/10 digs/2 blocks), Matthew Chacon (4 kills/3 digs), and Drew Craig (2 kills/3 digs/1 block).

Up Next: The Hornets (9-11 overall, 6-6 conference) will play this Wednesday night (Apr. 9) at Long Beach City College. Match time is at 6:00 pm.
