SOFTBALL: WIND DAMAGE

The Hornets hosted Orange Coast College on a windy Tuesday afternoon and managed a 5-2 victory over the Pirates.

The win lifts Fullerton to 16-10 overall and helps them keep pace in the tough Orange Empire Conference at 6-3. The Pirate defeat lands them at 6-15 overall and 4-7 in the OEC.

The game was scoreless, until the bottom of the fourth when FC made their move scoring two runs. Brigid Ruiz got to first on an error advancing Tiffiny Centeno across home plate. With the bases loaded, Miranda Hernandez forced a walk that brought Evelyn Hernandez home.

In the fifth, the Hornets furthered their lead scoring three more run to go up 5-0. Again, the bases were loaded and Evelyn Hernandez walked forcing in Becca Perez for the first run of the inning. Ruiz reached first on an OCC error that scored Desiree Lopez and Nia Rodman.

The Pirates grabbed a run in the sixth and seventh innings on a couple of FC errors, however Hornet pitcher Brigid Ruiz shut down the threat. Ruiz went a complete 7 innings with no earned runs, 5 hits, and had 7 strikeouts. She currently leads the conference in K's with 126.

Up Next: The Hornets (16-10, 6-3) will play at Santiago Canyon College for another OEC match-up today, March 23rd @ 3:00 pm.
