SOFTBALL: TWO WINS IN A DAY

SOFTBALL: TWO WINS IN A DAY

The Lady Hornets had a busy day on Wednesday, beating Golden West College twice at home 5-3 and 4-2.

The first game of the day originally began at Golden West College back on March 11th and was postponed in the third inning due to rain. It was then agreed that the game would be completed at Fullerton just before the two teams' next game.

The picked up in the bottom of the third with one out and Fullerton leading 4-1. GWC's Domonique Romero was at second base after hitting a double before the game was halted. A past ball advanced Romero to third, but FC shut down the threat grabbing the next to outs on pop-up and a strikeout.

In the fifth, Fullerton added an insurance run when Alyssa Dilay singled to center field scoring Miranda Hernandez.

The Rustlers made things interesting in the sixth scoring two runs. With the bases loaded Julia Morey earned a walk forcing Stephanie Castro across home plate. Camille Maciel then grounded out first, but not before Alanna Torres sprinted home scoring the games final run. The Hornets managed to hold on for the 5-3 win.

In the second game of the day, Fullerton scored all four of their runs in the second inning to beat Golden West 4-2. The damage began when Melissa Madrigal tapped a high bunt giving Arianna Ramirez a chance to score the game's first run. FC loaded the bases and Becca Perez worked the count for a walk scoring Tiffiny Centeno. Alexis Pintado came up to the late and rocked a hard-hit single to left center scoring Madrigal and Evelyn Hernandez.

Solid defense kept the Rustler offense quiet until the seventh inning. With the bases loaded, GWC made their move scoring two runs on a single by Taylor Clinkaberry that brought in Yairely Vallejo and Maciel.

The Hornet defense shut down the threat to win the much-needed Orange Empire Conference game.

Pitcher Brigid Ruiz (20-11) earned her 20th win of the season, a feat that has not been done since Brandi Escarzaga in 2008 with 25.
