SOFTBALL: HORNETS OVER TIGERS

The Hornets got past to conference rival Riverside City College at home Wednesday defeating the Tigers 3-1.

FC took an early 2-0 advantage in the second inning when Khloe Liliavois ripped a hard-hit single down the right field line scoring Lulu Vasquez, who opened up the inning with a strong double to the left field fence. Soon after, Lilivois scored from third on Anabel Mendez's successful second base steal.

Riverside took a run back in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded, A Loreto hit the ball to right field and was thrown out at first. D Lopez advanced home on the throw.

The Hornets went up 3-1 in the bottom sixth when Vasquez hit one up the middle to the center fielder that brought Veronica Garza home.

FC pitcher Lulu Vasquez got the start in the circle to earning the win. She went 6 innings and gave up 1 run on 1 hit. Vasquez also had 4 K's and 4 walks. Jessica Lopez came in for the seventh inning with no hits allowed to earn the save.

Up Next: The Hornets (14-2 overall, 5-1 OEC) continue their game against Cypress College from February (postponed due to darkness) this Friday, March 15th at Hornet Field at noon. The Hornets and Chargers will play their scheduled game following the finish of game one.
