SOFTBALL: GROUNDING THE HAWKS
No. 9 Fullerton hosted Santiago Canyon College on Monday in an Orange Empire Conference grudge match and held off the Hawks 2-1.
It was a needed win for the Hornets as SCC got the best of them the last time they faced off (2-0) March 1st. Today was a close one, but the ladies played their hearts out for Coach Speedy Mendoza on her birthday.
Since last Monday, the FC softball team has been on a tear beating seven teams by a total of 46-4. The Hornets held four teams scoreless while enforcing the mercy rule on two.
Santiago Canyon took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on hard-hit double to left center field by Cozette Zoch scoring Amanda Pacillas.
The Hornets tied it up in the third with two outs when Kaylee Williamson smashed a double to deep left field that brought Sabrina Anguiano home from second.
Fullerton's Williamson did it again in the fifth with two outs cracking a shot through the right side scoring Anguiano.
Lulu Vasquez got the nod in the circle throwing 4 solid innings with no earned runs, 2 hits allowed, 2 strikeouts and 1 walk. Jessica Lopez (8-2 overall) finished it out grabbing the win going 3 innings with 1 hit against, no runs, 4 strikeouts, and 2 walks.
Up Next: The Hornets (22-4 overall, 8-3 OEC) will play at Saddleback College on Wednesday, March 27th at 3:00 pm.
