In an Orange Empire Conference game, the No. 6 in state Hornets cruised past the No. 2 Cypress Chargers 5-1 at home Tuesday afternoon.
Fullerton (11-2 overall, 3-0 OEC) is off to a good start in game one of the three game OEC series handing Cypress (16-2, 3-1) its second loss of the season and first in conference.
The Hornets did most of its damage in the second inning scoring 4 runs on the Chargers. Jianna Lopez got it started hitting a single to left center scoring Miranda Pozos. Jordan Elias then cranked a single knocking Alyssa Garcia and Lopez. Haley Garcia got on from a Cypress error giving Elias the chance to come home.
The Chargers managed to score their lone run in the top of the fourth off a double by Kimberley MacPherson that scored Makayla Motis.
FC added one more insurance run in the fifth when Veronica Moore reached on a fielder's choice. Jordan Elias came across on an errant throw by the Chargers.
Up Next: The No. 6 Hornets (11-2, 3-0) will play game two of the series at Cypress College on Thursday, March 14th at 3:00 pm.
Allyson Fuentes was lights out throwing a 7-inning complete game with 1 unearned run on 6 hits with 4 Ks and 2 walks.
