HORNETS MAKING WAVES OVER THE PIRATES

It was a big week for the No. 1 in state Hornets as the team faced off with the other undefeated team in the Orange Empire Conference in Orange Coast College. Fullerton managed to sweep the series beating the Pirates 5-1 on Tuesday, 10-4 on Wednesday, and 7-2 today.

Fullerton also hit the 20-win mark this week making it the fourth the straight season since the pandemic.

The Pirates snatched a 2-0 lead scoring a run in the second and third innings on sacrifice flies.

All it took was one big inning by Fullerton to turn the game on a dime as the team dropped scored 7 runs in the fifth inning. Cassidy Hornung popped a single that scored Milene Mendoza, and Jordan Elias singled through the left side plating Hornung and Alyssa Garcia. Veronica Moore hit one to center field plating Elias, and pinch hitter Angelina Granado grounded out to second giving Haley Garcia the chance to go home. Coco Siono knocked a shot to shallow left center scoring Caitlyn Stear, and Milene Mendoza rocked a triple to right field that scored Siono.

Macy Brandl (12-1) got the start in the circle and worked her 12th win going 7 strong innings with 5 hits, 2 earned runs, had 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.

At the plate, Milene Mendoza was 3 for 3 with a run and RBI, while Cassidy Hornung was 2 for 3 with a run and RBI.

Up Next: The No. 1 in state Hornets (21-3 overall, 12-0 OEC) will host Long Beach City College for a non-conference game on Monday, April 8th at 3:00 pm.
