SOPHOMORE DAY VICTORY

SOPHOMORE DAY VICTORY

It was Sophomore Day for the No. 1 Hornets on Tuesday as the team welcomed Santa Ana back to campus for game two of the OEC series and won it over the Dons 3-1.

The newly crowned Orange Empire Conference champions still have one more game left and are looking to make history as the only team in the modern era to go undefeated in conference-play as well as achieving the most conference wins since the program began. The 1974 Hornets, under legendary softball and basketball coach Colleen Riley, guide the team to a 17-0 record well before the 3C2A State Championship. Fullerton College was the SoCal or the SCCIAC Champions in 1974 and 1975.

Prior to the start of the game, all 12 FC sophomores were honored by the FC coaching staff for their hard work and dedication the past couple of seasons. Jordan Elias, Madison Gonzalez, Cassidy Hornung, Brenna Monson, Alyssa Garcia, Cindy Menendez, Payton Babineau, Coco Siono, Caitlyn Stear, Allyson Fuentes, Serina Vue, and Haley Garcia have all been so good to the program helping to build it as the No. 1 team in the state.

Fullerton didn't bring any runs across, until the bottom of the fourth when Serina Vue got on from a Don error allowing Veronica Moore to score. Jianna Lopez then hit a SAC fly to center giving Alyssa Garcia a path home. Allyson Fuentes ripped a hard line-drive single to left field scoring Vue.

Up 3-0 heading into the top of the seventh, Santa Ana still had some fight left getting two batters on from singles on the right side by Carissa Aguilar and Vinnie Robles. With two outs, Gio Tully singled up the middle plating Aguilar for Santa Ana's lone run. The game ended on a nice line-drive catch by Cassidy Hornung.

Allyson Fuentes (16-2) got the win throwing a complete 7 innings with 7 hits against, 1 earned run, had no walks, and 4 strikeouts.

Up Next: The No. 1 Hornets (34-4 overall, 20-0 OEC) will get back down to business tomorrow (April 24th) when the team travels to No. 5 Palomar College for a make-up game. Game time is at 2:30 pm.
