DAY 1 STATE TOURNAMENT: HORNETS SLIDE PAST SIERRA

No. 1 (south) Fullerton took on No. 4 (north) Sierra at West Valley College on Thursday for game two of the 3C2A State Tournament and blanked the Wolverines 2-0.

The win propels the Hornets (41-5 overall) to the next round of the bracket where the team will meet the No. 2 (north) San Mateo Bulldogs (38-5), who decisively beat No. 3 (south) Palomar 8-0 earlier in the day.

FC took advantage on a Sierra error and a timely hit in the bottom of the third giving the team a 2-0 lead. Jordan Elias reached first on a Wolverine throwing error allowing Coco Siono the chance to go home, and Haley Garcia popped a single up the middle and moved Elias home.

Sophomore Allyson Fuentes (20-2) was the starting pitcher for Fullerton tossing a complete game shutout allowing only 3 hits. She had no walks and struck out 4 out of 21 batters faced. Newly appointed 3CFA Pitcher of the Year Macy Brandl (freshman) came in for the seventh inning to earn her first save of the season. She did not give up a hit, had no walks, and 1 strikeout.

It only took four hits for the Hornets to pass their first test with Haley Garcia landing two, while Coco Siono and Cassidy Hornung split the other two.

Up Next: The No. 1 (south) Hornets will play against the No. 2 (north) College of San Mateo on Friday, May 17th at West Valley College. The first pitch goes out at 11:00 am.
