LA Mission
The 2024 State Champion Hornets welcomed the 2025 season playing in the Mt. SAC Tournament over the weekend winning two out of three games.
In the first game on Friday afternoon, Fullerton plucked the wings of the LA Mission Eagles 11-5. 1B Veronica Moore had quite a day at the plate going 3-4 while driving in 6 RBI thanks to a big triple in the second inning and a double in the fifth. FC pitcher Grace Workman (1-0) earned her first win tossing a complete 7 inning game with 4 runs against.
The second game on Friday was a tough 11-0 loss to Fresno City. After ripping 9 hits in the previous game, the Hornet bats went cold mustering up only 3 hits against the Rams.
On Saturday, Fullerton and Mt. SAC went at it in a 28-run score fest with the Hornets getting the best of the Mounties 15-13. The Hornets came out clicking in the first four innings jumping all over the Mounties with a 14-4 lead. The always talented Mt. SAC squad came firing back scoring 7 runs in the fifth inning and 2 more in the 6th for a 14-13 score heading into the seventh. FC pinch hitter Victoria Tlilayatzi gave her team some breathing room by knocking a single that scored Veronica Moore. Pitcher Grace Workman (2-1) earned the win for Fullerton after a game-closing double play- a lineout to 2B Zoey Bautista who then tossed it 1B Veronica Moore. Moore had another strong game going 3-5 with 3 runs and 2 RBI, while Bethany Morrison chipped in going 3-4 with 4 runs and 3 RBI. Lisa Villanueva was 2-4 had 2 runs and 4 RBI. Jianna Lopez went 2-3 with a run and 3 RBI.
Up Next: The Hornets (2-1 overall) will have their home opener this Thursday, January 30th against Long Beach City College. The first pitch goes out at 3:00 pm. Come out and support the team!
