SPLITTING GAMES WITH BAKERSFIELD

SPLITTING GAMES WITH BAKERSFIELD

Fullerton College softball hosted Bakersfield College for a double-header on Thursday afternoon and split with the Renegades 3-5 and 6-2.

The two-game stint was a makeup from a rain-out on February 8th. The win/loss gives Fullerton an overall record of 4-5, while the Renegade's win/loss puts the team at 4-5 in the overall standings.

In the first game of the day, FC fell behind early as Bakersfield scored a run in the first inning and another in the second. Serenity Angulo knocked a fly ball to deep right field for a SAC Fly giving Sadie Salas the opportunity to score from third. In the next at bat, Salas hit a single to right center scoring Clarisa Rivera.

After scoring a run in the third on Avery Wiersma's hit down the right line scoring Milene Mendoza, the Hornet offense blew up in the fourth inning dropping 4 more runs on the Renegades. Lisa Villanueva rocked a single left field that caused a fielding and throwing error allowing Hope Morales and Jianna Lopez to cruise home. Milene Mendoza hammered a triple to left field plating Kasey NicholsToafa Pua then flied out to right field for a sacrifice fly allowing Mendoza to come home.

Bakersfield managed to get one more run in the top of the sixth, but Grace Workman (4-2) shut it down earning her 4th win on the season. Workman threw a complete 7 inning game with 9 hits against, 3 runs, had 1 walk, and 6 strikeouts.

Game two was a tough one for the Hornets, who could only get 2 runs across on 8 hits. 4 errors proved costly, and the Gades took advantage scoring 3 unearned runs ultimately stunning Fullerton 6-2.

Up Next: The Hornets (4-5 overall) will hit the road this Saturday, February 22nd to take on San Diego Mesa College for another non-conference matchup. The first pitch goes out at 1:00 pm.
