SACKING SANTA ANA

SACKING SANTA ANA

It took a couple innings, but the FC softball squad lit up the scoreboard at home Thursday handing Santa Ana College a 9-2 loss.

Fullerton had beaten the Dons 11-2 this past Tuesday in 5 innings giving the team its second victory in the three-game series. The win bumps FC to 9-14 overall and to 3-5 in the Orange Empire Conference, while Santa Ana falls to 11-15 overall and 0-5 in the OEC.

Santa Ana took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, however the Hornets tied the game up in the bottom of the second on Avery Wiersma's SAC fly to left field allowing Juliana Ursino to hustle home.

The Dons clapped back with another run in the third taking a 2-1 advantage, but Fullerton answered the call with a run in the third to tie it back up at 2-2. Hope Morales took advantage of a Don throwing error that allowed her to sprint across home plate after stealing third.

The FC offense exploded for five runs in the fifth inning breaking the game open with a 7-2 lead. Brooklyn Evans got it started with a nice base hit up the middle. Veronica Moore then came up hammering a hard single down the left line that brought in Kasey Nichols (pinch ran for Evans). Toafa Pua ripped a hard single to center field that scored Moore and Bethany MorrisonAvery Wiersma did some more damage hitting a double down the left line that plated Juliana Ursino and Jianna Lopez.

Fullerton added two more security runs in the sixth before wrapping up the win. Veronica Moore doubled to center field scoring Kasey Nichols, and Linsey Arostigue singled to center field that brought in Moore.
