WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: BIG EFFORT AND A TOUGH LOSS

Opening up conference-play for the 2014 season, the Hornets stood strong against a talented Santa Ana College team, but ended up losing in the final minutes 54-48.

The Dons improved to 11-6 overall and 1-0 in conference while the Hornets dropped to 4-12 overall and 0-1 in conference.

It was a hard-fought game that featured 5 ties and 14 lead changes.

Fullerton had a 48-47 lead with 2:20 left in the game, but the Don's Jasmine Johnson scored on a layup to put SAC up 49-48.  FC let a few offensive opportunities in the paint slip away and the Dons held on for the win.

A sparkplug for Fullerton, Noelle Cobb led the team in scoring with 13 points, and 5 rebounds.  Andrya Ventura followed with 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals.  Tatiana Scott had 7 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and two steals. Kelli Calton and Jazzmine Shipp each put up 6 points.

Fomer basketball Hornets came to watch the game, and to support former teammate Taiyande Huskey, who recently joined the FC coaching staff.  In attendance were: Eshell Estrella (07-08), Amy Richard (08-09), Kelly Thompson (08-09), Kathy Trujillo (08-09), Renee Wood (08-09), and  Aunjanay Chambers (11-12).  Huskey played for Fullerton during the 2009-10 OEC championship seasons and was the conferenence MVP in 2010.

Up Next: The Hornets (5-12, 1-0) will travel to district rival Cypress College this Friday, January 10th.  Tip off is at 7:30 pm.
