WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: JUST MISSED

In their first Orange Empire Conference match-up of the season, the Fullerton College women's basketball team lost a nail-bitter at Riverside City College Wednesday night 55-54. 

RCC (12-5 overall, 1-0 OEC) grabbed a large 16-point lead at the 10:07 mark in the first half, and the Hornets (11-5, 0-1) were sent to their locker room reeling at halftime 31-17.

In the second half, FC made their presence known with a strong 18-4 run catching the Tigers at the 13:41 mark at 35 apiece.

From there, the game became a back and forth dogfight with 7 lead changes. Fullerton owned a 4-point lead with 18 seconds left on the clock until RCC's Tamara Herring hit a 3-pointer. Holding a 54-53, the Hornets turned the ball over with 6 seconds left. With the final three seconds running off the clock, Tierra Fuqua drove the lane laying the ball in for the one-point win.  

Fullerton hung strong in a game where they were out-matched on the boards 52-35 but out-scored the Tigers 23-9 on turnovers.

Hornet Sophomore Noelle Cobb scored a game-high 16 points with 3 assists and 6 rebounds. Freshman Emilee Dy put up 15 points with 5 assists while Xochitl Nava came off the bench scoring 9 points with 3 steals and 4 rebounds.
