WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: FINE CONFERENCE OPENER

Fullerton opened up Orange Empire Conference-play at home Wednesday night with a strong 75-36 win over Orange Coast College.

The Hornet win bumps their overall record to 9-6 with a 1-0 record in the Orange Empire Conference. The Pirate loss lands them at 2-12 overall and 0-1 in the OEC.

FC grabbed the reigns early in the first quarter going on a 12-2 run by 4:34. Heading in the second quarter, the Hornets owned a 19-9 lead. Fullerton's full court press was paying dividends forcing 13 turnovers as they pushed their lead over the Pirates 37-11 at 5:05. By halftime, FC was in total control with a 43-18 advantage.

The Hornets continued to rack up more points in the second half going up 67-32 with just under six minutes left in the game thanks to a three-pointer by Moriah Serrano. With the game well at hand, Fullerton ran out the clock for the win.

Hannah Jones led all scorers with 16 points. She was 2 for 3 beyond the three-point line, had 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Angela Zendejas scored 12 points and had a big night under the rim with 13 rebounds for a double-double. Moriah Serrano also put up 12 points, had 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. Sydney Nekola tallied 10 points, while Jessica Quirarte added 9 points with 5 boards in a winning effort.

Up Next: Fullerton (9-6 overall, 1-0 conference) travels to Golden West College on Friday, January 10th for another conference matchup. Tip off is at 5:00 pm.
