SINKING THE CORSAIRS OF SANTA MONICA

The Hornets made it 4-0 on Tuesday night in the Nest for the home opener defeating Santa Monica College 79-63 in a non-conference game.

Fullerton drained the first shot to kickstart the game- a three by Jimena Solorio. After forcing six turnovers, the Hornet offense exploded going on a 19-4 run that was capped by Amaya Iannone's layup with 3:47 left in the first quarter. By the quarter's end the Corsairs took a bite of FC 's lead at 26-8. 

A jumper by Hailey Lakey and a three-pointer by Kaylee Shimoda lifted Fullerton's lead to 21 (31-10) at the start of the second quarter. Lakey and Xochitl Hood both contributed 9 points each in the first half as the Hornets went into the halftime break with a big 46-28 lead.

FC ruled the second half with an iron fist pushing its largest lead to 24 before cooling off the jsts a bit in the fourth. The Hornets forced 23 turnovers and shot 41.3% to SMC's 38.9%. 

Xochitl Hood led the team in scoring with 20 points, had 6 boards, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. Kaylee Shimoda was right in there with 19 points (5 for 10 3-pointers), had 5 assists, and 2 rebounds.
