CLIMBING PAST CUESTA

After taking their first loss of the season against a tough Glendale squad on Wednesday, the Hornet rebounded well with a 72-54 win over visiting Cuesta College.

Fullerton took it on the nose against Glendale (4-2 overall) 72-52, and then gave it back to Cuesta College for a nice rebound victory. The win puts FC at 6-1 overall, while the Cougars were bumped to 3-4 in the standings.

The Hornets opened the game up with a 10-0 run that was sprung by Xochitl Hood's jumper near the top of the key. Fullerton held the Cougars to 7 points in the first quarter, while a trey by Erin Choi and a free throw by Hood gave FC a 24-7 edge going into the second quarter.

A Hailey Lakey jump shot along with Jimena Solorio's two-pointer put the Hornets up 30-14 by the 6-minute mark of the second quarter. By the halftime break, FC held a comfortable 13-point lead at 36-23.

Fullerton stayed hot in the third quarter with three-pointers by Hailey Lakey, Amya Iannone, and Kaylee Shimoda that gave the team a 58-25 lead at 3:50. Erin Choi turned a 4-point play after sinking a three-pointer after getting fouled. She dropped in the free throw giving FC a 59-32 advantage to end the quarter.

With the game under control, the Hornets ran out the clock in the fourth quarter securing the non-conference win.

Erin Choi had a big game leading the Hornets in scoring with 19 points. She also added 4 rebounds. Hailey Lakey scored 17 points, had 9 boards, 2 assists, and 2 blocks. Kaylee Shimoda put up 14 points with 6 rebounds and 5 assists, while Xochitl Hood scored 10 points, had 2 rebounds, and 2 assists. 

Up Next: The Hornets (6-1) will look to keep the wins coming when they travel to Citrus College on Tuesday, December 3rd for a non-conference matchup. Tipoff is at 5:00 pm.
