45TH ANNUAL COLLEEN RILEY HOLIDAY CROSSOVER PREVIEW

The 45th annual Colleen Riley Holiday Crossover is all set to begin this Thursday, December 19th with six talented teams meeting in the Hornets Nest for some excellent basketball competition.

This past weekend the Hornets (10-1 overall) traveled up north to take on Skyline and Hartnell colleges and won both games 66-59 OT and 68-47. Fullerton was tabbed No. 20 in the CCCWBCA State Top 25 rankings on December 10th only suffering one loss on the young season while beating quality teams in Citrus, Chaffey, and Cuesta. Leading the way for FC has been sophomore guard/forward Xochitl Hood, who has averaged 16.9 points a game, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists. Sophomore point guard Kaylee Shimoda has been scoring 13.8 ppg, bringing down 3 rpg, and dishing out 2.8 apg. A few first-year players have been welcome additions in guard Hailey Lakey (9.9 ppg/7.9 rpg), guard/forward Erin Choi (9.4 ppg/3.3 rpg/3.3 apg), and guard Jimena Solorio (8.4 ppg/3.6 rpg/3.6 apg).

No. 22 Citrus College (7-3 overall) currently has a one-game lead in the Western State-South Conference over Glendale College (6-3), who had handed Fullerton its only loss on the season. The Owl's three losses came against ranked teams in No. 20 Fullerton, No. 5 Moorpark, and No. 3 Orange Coast. The offense is led by guard Jolleen Olia, who is putting up 16.9 points a game 3.6 rebounds, and 3 assists, and 2.5 steals. Guard Leilani Argueta has been scoring 10.8 ppg, while averaging 3.9 rebounds a game. Guard in Kristin Morella is scoring 8.6 ppg and 2 rpg, and 1.8 apg. This experienced group of players is made up of all sophomores with the exception of Maileeh Suasti, a freshman forward averaging 5.1 ppg and 5.9 rebounds. Last season, the Owls pulled off a 20-win season going 20-10 overall.

No. 23 Santa Barbara City College (9-2 overall) had six consecutive wins to start the season but hit a bump in the road with two straight losses to No. 3 Orange Coast and No. 25 Antelope Valley. Since then, the Vaqueros have won two straight over Copper Mountain and No. 18 Santa Ana. The scoring leader for the Vaqs has been first-year player Isis Poteet with 15.4 ppg. She is also bringing down 9 rebounds a game with 2.6 assists. Sophomore Kaylee Bosetti is putting up strong numbers too with 11.4 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 2.8 apg. Another freshman in Aariah Fox is scoring 10.6 ppg, while racking up 8.1 rebounds. 

Imperial Valley College (6-4 overall) just missed the top 25 after receiving votes. The Warriors recently lost a close one at home to No. 21 Mt. San Jacinto 44-40. The team has three players scoring in double-digits in Amy Riley (13.4 ppg/8.4 rpg/1.2 steals), Cecilia Costa (13.2 ppg/3.8 rpg/2.3 apg), and Julia Moreno (10 ppg/3.2 steals). Sophomore guard Carolina Sauceda has been the glue putting the Warriors together with 8.3 ppg, 8.3 rebounds, and 3.9 assists, and 5.8 steals.

Porterville College (5-6 overall) has been scrapping this season with seven total players, but one player in freshman guard Danae Banuelos has been outstanding with 17.8 points a game, is averaging 13 rebounds, and has 28 steals on the season. Sophomore guard Andrea Perez has also been on top of it with 15 ppg, 7 rpg, and 4.5 apg. Anjolie Cibrian (11.2 ppg), Jada Bravo (10.7 ppg), and Alexis Vazquez (7.6 ppg) have been a big help to this small but dangerous team.

Cerritos College (3-7 overall) features freshman guard Lauryn Nakamura (10 ppg/4.7rpg/2.2apg), sophomore guard Jayden Estrada (8.9 ppg/3.6 rpg/1.9 apg), and freshman guard Genesis Salinas (8.8 ppg/4.4 apg).

Up Next: The first game on the schedule is this Thursday, December 19th in the Nest where No. 23 Santa Barbara City and No. 22 Citrus will meet at 3:00 pm. The second game of the day will be Cerritos vs. Porterville at 5:00 pm, and your Hornets will play in the third game at 7:00 pm against Imperial Valley.
