HOOD & SHIMODA SIGN ON TO THE NEXT LEVEL
On Monday, two sophomore basketball standouts made their four-year college choice as Xochitl Hood signed with Whittier College and Kaylee Shimoda committed to the University of La Verne.
Both Hood and Shimoda were instrumental in bringing glory back to the Hornet basketball program under Head Coach Dan Desmond. Fullerton had one of its best seasons in the last decade with an overall record of 19-11, while winning its first playoff game in 14 seasons- an 80-47 victory over Citrus College.
Next saeason Xochitl and Kaylee will face off against each other in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) where the Poets of Whittier College completed last season with a 21-5 overall record and the Leopards of La Verne finished at 17-7.
A two-time 1st Team All-OEC selection, Xochitl Hood scored 791 points, had 158 assists, 464 rebounds, 119 steals, and 56 blocks in her two seasons at Fullerton. A forward/guard, Xochitl can score from anywhere on the court and make it look easy. She is also a great defender that can shut down an offensive threat.
A two-year starter, Kaylee Shimoda was a 2nd Team All-OEC selection last season and broke the career three-point record with 136 threes made. The previous record was held by FC Hall of Famer Angie Baca who had 134 from 1996-1998. In two seasons as a Hornet, she totaled 620 points, 144 assists, 188 rebounds, and 91 steals. Shimoda is a game-changer from beyond the arc and is a skilled point guard that can protect the ball.
Congratulations to both Xochitl and Kaylee!
Once a Hornet, Always a Hornet!
