WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: CERRITOS INVITE
The Hornets traveled a short distance to Norwalk last Saturday for the Cerritos College Invitational.
FC escaped the rain as the skies were threatening to rain on the meet all day. Keeping dry, the track featured some great performances from Samantha Duong as she won both of her heats in the hurdle events. This was her first performance on the track with those events posting good early marks of 16.95 in 100M H (10th place) and 1:07.11 in 400m H (3rd place overall). Jasmine Mendoza also ran those same events and placed in the top ten.
In the 200M, Samantha Duong and Fanny Giron ran 26.67 (9th place) and 26.88 (11th place) respectively times.
Andrea Mendez and Fanny Giron joined the track in the 800M run. Andrea was a mere second off her best time of the season 2:24.46 (5th best time of the day) and Fanny's 2:25.85 was the eighth best time of the day. The training is proving it is working for these ladies and staying strong with performances.
The throwers continue to emerge in the shot put and hammer events especially. Michelle Okoroike threw 31' 8" 9.65 meters and Marrisa Myers throw of 31' 3.75" 9.54 meters posted PR's (personal records) in those events. They were seventh and ninth overall with the field of throwers.
The hammer gave Amber Hernandez a PR and overall 10th best throw of the day with a toss of 94' 11" 28.94 meters. Salena Torres was two places behind Amber and gave herself a PR with a 88' 4" 26.93 meters effort.
Up Next: The Hornets have a bye this weekend, but they will be back in action on March 11-12th for the Orange Empire Conference Heptathlon/Decathlon hosted by Golden West College at Orange Coast College.
