WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: OEC PRELIMS

The Orange Empire Conference Prelims were hosted by Golden West College at Orange Coast College last Friday and the Hornets were strong competitors.

The events contested on the track were run as a qualifying prelim round with the exception of the 10K as a final. All field events this week were competed as finals in the long jump, hammer, shot put, and pole vault.

The Hornets first event of the day was the long jump and FC's Jasmine Williams gave herself a personal record (PR) with a jump of 16' 9.25" (5.11 meters) for a 7th place finish.

In the hammer event, Salena Torres and Marrisa Myers finished up at 7th and 8th place with their best throws of the season 108'9" (33.16m) and 101'11" (31.06m) respectively.

In the shot put event, big improvements happened for the Lady Hornets with Williams picking up 8th place and a big PR throwing 33'8.5" (10.27m). Marrisa Myers took 9th place with a throw of  32' .25" (9.76m). Michelle Okoroike 30' 5" (9.27m), and Amber Hernandez 30' 1.5" (9.18m) rounding out the rest.

On the track, Jasmine Williams 15.23 and Jasmine Mendoza 17.28 both qualified in the 100m Hurdles. At the end of the day, Julia Popick ran her 10K (25 laps) in 45:01.12 and finished in 7th place.

Up Next: The OEC Championships at Orange Coast College on Friday April 24th. The field events start at 10:00 am with the track events beginning at 2:00 pm.
