WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: SOCAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Southern California Track and Field Regional Championships were held at Antelope Valley College this past Saturday and the Hornets were amongst the top 30 plus community college teams in attendance.

The weather was in the middle 80 degrees and up to 20 mph winds however that did not stop the Hornets from competing their best.

Samantha Duong had a spectacular day, as she became the runner-up athlete in the 400M Hurdles. Duong ran her best time of the season at 1:03.98 advancing to the State Championships.

"This was my goal for the season, to make it to state in the 400M Hurdles. I want to break the school record," said Sam Duong.

Duong also competed in the 100M Hurdles and finished in 8th place with a time of 16.41.

In the field events, Madison Fitzpatrick competed in the Javelin first for her first event of the day. She threw 80 feet finishing in 12th place overall.  

Fitzpatrick also competed in the shot put event in the afternoon and threw 35' 1/2" claiming 12th place.

"Being a freshman, this was a good year for me. This meet gave me the experience I need to take in to the next year", replied Madison Fitzpatrick.

Up Next: The State Championships will be held on Saturday, May 21st at San Diego Mesa College. Events will begin at 1:00 pm.
