WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD: GOOD WEATHER GREAT RESULTS

A warm, sunny day was the perfect combination for the Lady Hornets to compete at Glendale College in the Vaquero Classic Invitational last on Saturday. Plus, Roxanne performed well at the SoCal Heptathlon Regionals.

Once again, the ladies conquered 10 personal bests amongst themselves.

Sam Starkey had a great day in the long jump with a big 16'3.25" effort that ranks her in second place behind Myrna Gillas. Starkey ran a 13.27 in the 100 meters for her second accomplishment.

"It felt good to finally get that all-time best jump and I know I can go further"' replied Starkey.

Jasmine Amaya had a good day in the long jump as well jumping 15' .5" for her PR placing her in 6th overall in the OEC. Chelsie Davila got on board with the other ladies and jumped her PR mark of 14' 10". The jumps are gearing up well for the conference championships at the end of this month.

Myrna Gillas ran her best time in the 200M (25.53) moving her in the top 10 rankings for SoCal.

The 400M hurdle race was exciting to watch as Alicia Victoria ran a clean and strong race and managed a two second PR with a time of 1:06.98. She is now ranked second in the OEC and seventh in SoCal competition. Prior to that race, Victoria ran her best 100M in 12.71.

Shenise West won her heat in the 400M H and ran her best with a 1:16.27. West's time of 13.65 was her other PR of the day in the 100 meters.

Raquel Aldama won her heat in the 800M race with a 2:30.73 effort.

Rebeca Perez ran the 800M/1500M double and ran close to her PR's gearing up for her OEC championships.

Kim Mataia had a good day in he hammer throw with a toss of 125' 9". It was a personal record for Matia placing her in fourth in the OEC. Alexis Kotey had a good throw in the hammer but sectored.

"All in all, the ladies are looking good to represent themselves and show off their training with the conference championships around the corner.  There is good energy amongst the team", said Head Coach Gina Bevec. Up Next: The Cerritos Invitational on Friday, April 12th. Start time is at 10:00 am. 

Earlier in the week, Roxanne Cuevas finished her second heptathlon of the season competing at the Southern California Heptathlon Regional Championships at Cerritos College. On day one, Cuevas claimed three of the four events with personal records. Day two gave her one PR in the 800M run.  She improved from her last HEP one month ago.

"I knew what to expect going in to this HEP and staying focused with each of my events was my strength", said Roxanne Cuevas.

She finished in 11th place with the SO CA rankings.
