WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: OEC CHAMPIONSHIP WRAP-UP

The FC track and field finished team finished off the Orange Empire Conference Championships with a third place finish (106 points) at Santa Ana College over the weekend.

Myrna Gillas was crowned the OEC high jump champion with a 1.67 meter jump. Roxanne Cuevas had a three-inch personal record (PR) 1.47 meters and placed second. Gillas ran her best placing second in the 200m with a flying time of 25.21 and continued her achievements placing second in the long jump. Sam Starkey followed behind Gillas for third with Cuevas taking fifth and Jasmine Amaya finishing in seventh.

Continuing on with the field events, Kim Matia placed third in the hammer throw and Alexis Daisy Kotey took fourth. Kotey took sixth in the javelin with Angellee Vernon following behind her for seventh. Kotey also placed fifth in the discus and Matia landed in the seventh place spot. Matia also had a big throw in the shot put at 11.44m, while Kotey had a toss of 10.90m claiming third and fourth places. The hammer event finished up with Kim and Alexis taking second and third place.

On the track, Raquel Aldama finished with a big PR in the 3KSC 12:36.62 for fifth place. Alicia Victoria ran her best over the ten hurdles in both races. Her 100m H time was 16.87 (fourth place) and 400m H was 1:05.77 (second place). Rebeca Perez finished seventh in the 800m and eighth in the 1500m literally one second off of her best times in those events. Shenise West claimed the sixth spot in the 400m H and was eighth in the 100m.

The 4 X 400m relay was third with a six-second PR from Victoria, Gillas, Cuevas and Perez. Every point was crucial as the ladies banned together to support each other finishing in the top three places in one of the toughest conferences.
