GROWTH, GRIT, & NEW BEGINNINGS

As the 2025 track and field season begins to wind down, the FC women's track and field team reflects on their journeys- each story different, but tied together by resilience, growth, and deep bonds formed through sport.

Ariana Rodriguez: The Comeback Runner
After a year away at a four-year university, distance runner Ariana Rodriguez returned to Fullerton in summer 2024 determined to make her mark. Competing in both cross country and track, she found purpose in helping others and is pursuing a degree in mathematics with aspirations of becoming a teacher and coach. Ariana's most cherished memory came at the XC State Meet, where she and her teammates truly bonded for the first time. She also recalls her emotional 10k debut at the OEC Prelims, where her team's support pushed her to a 7th place finish. Ariana is still weighing her transfer options, but Cal State Fullerton may be the next stop.

Daisy Perez: Sociologist on the Track
First-year sprinter Daisy Perez balanced academics, athletics, and a job at Disneyland by sticking to a tight schedule. Her interest in sociology guided her major, and through track and a supportive coach, she found her rhythm. One of her favorite moments came during a post-practice trip to Laguna Beach—a reward for a tough week of training. Daisy is still exploring transfer options but is excited for what comes next.

Jocelyn Shuler: The Engineer Jumper
For jumper Jocelyn Shuler, balancing chemical engineering coursework, track, and a demanding job was no easy feat—but she thrived in the challenge. Jocelyn hopes to work in oil or gas fields and said being surrounded by supportive teammates made all the difference. One of her top memories came during a lighthearted volleyball game after practice, a moment of connection amidst the grind. She will be transferring at the end of the semester hoping to study at Cal State Long Beach or Cal Poly Pomona.

Sofia Gonzalez: Path to Patient Care
Sprinter Sofia Gonzalez is on a mission to become an ultrasound technician. Her experience at Fullerton solidified that goal, shaped by the encouragement of her driven and like-minded teammates. The 4x4 relays stood out as moments of true unity and team spirit. Sofia will continue her training at CBD College.

Sophia Nagao: Sprinting Through Setbacks
Sprinter Sophia Nagao battled injury and studied abroad in Japan in the fall of 2024 before redshirting the 2025 season and staying at Fullerton. A nutrition major with dreams of becoming a sports nutritionist, Sophia's college experience was shaped by injury, self-discovery, and the support of teammates and coaches. Her favorite memory was running the team's last 4x4 with her closest friends, a moment that cemented lasting bonds. She will transfer to San Diego State University to continue competing.

These athletes leave behind a legacy not just of fast times and podium finishes—but of commitment, community, and transformation. Their next races may take place on new tracks, but the lessons learned at Fullerton College will carry them far.
