HORNETS SHINE AT THE SOCAL PRELIMS
A cold and drizzly day couldn't dampen the spirit or performance of the FC women's track and field team, as the Hornets battled through slick conditions at the SoCal Prelims last weekend at Saddleback College.
The Hornets turned in several personal and season-best performances, highlighted by two relay squads that left a strong mark.
In the 400-meter relay, the team of Daisy Perez, Ciara Campos, Jocelyn Shuler, and Sofia Gonzalez clocked a season-best time of 51.55 seconds, finishing 11th overall in a tightly contested field.
The momentum carried over to the 1600-meter relay, where the same team shaved a staggering 12 seconds off their season best, posting a time of 4:10.20 to finish 10th in SoCal. The performance vaulted them into alternate position for next weekend's SoCal Finals.
In field events, Jocelyn Shuler delivered a standout performance in the triple jump, clearing 9.99 meters to qualify 12th for the SoCal Finals. She also competed in the high jump, recording a 1.40-meter mark. Teammate Ruby Cruz posted a 9.47-meter effort in the triple jump as well.
On the distance side, the Hornets picked up three personal bests. Sheccid Maldonado clocked a 2:48.79 in the 800 meters, while Ariana Rodriguez ran a 5:18.21 in the 1500 meters and followed it up with an outstanding 10K time of 41:43.37 — both career bests.
In sprinting events, Sofia Gonzalez continued her strong season with a 1:01.49 in the 400 meters, and Astrid Morales navigated the hurdles in 1:16.03.
Up Next: The Hornets will return to Saddleback College this Saturday, May 10th for the SoCal Finals, where Jocelyn Shuler will compete in the triple jump, and the 1600-meter relay team will serve as alternates.
