3RD PLACE FINISH AT THE OEC CHAMPIONSHIPS

3RD PLACE FINISH AT THE OEC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Coming into the Orange Empire Conference Championships, no one expected much from the No. 4 seeded Hornets, but a big 11-10 win over No. 2 Orange Coast netted a 3rd place finish giving the team a berth in the Southern California Regional playoffs.

The Pirates came out of the gate firing hitting two straight goals, but Fullerton soon tied it up with two consecutive goals. OCC got the last laugh scoring the final goal of the quarter for a 3-2 lead.

It was a shot-for-shot second quarter as both teams exchanged blows until the halftime horn sounded. The Pirates owned a 7-6 advantage at the break and added another goal at the top of the third quarter for a two-point cushion. The Hornets hung around, until they tied it up at 10-10 thanks to a goal by Moncerath Maldonado with 35 seconds in regulation. FC had 2 seconds on the clock when Elyse Weske struck gold with the winning-shot stunning a team that had beaten them earlier this season 9-8.

Fullerton goalie Brisela Robinson earned the win while racking up 7 saves. Moncerath Maldonado was the scoring leader with 4 goals, had 3 assists, and 3 steals. Isabella Castaneda had 3 goals along with a steal, and Kayla Arias chipped in with 2 goals of her own.

Up Next: The Hornets will play in the SoCal Regionals against Orange Coast College on Thursday, November 14th at 9:00 am at Golden West College.
